Objective

Objective: The Diver, pp. 3-18 Saufe is a dreamer. In "The Diver", we can see just that with his desire to fly like the birds. This lesson will discuss how Saufe is threatened by order because he is a dreamer.

1. Group Discussion: Divide the class into groups and discuss how Saufe's dreams are threatened by society's order. Do you think Saufe adhere's to the order enforced by the elders of society? How might Saufe's dreams threaten society in return? Do you feel that Saufe being a dreamer poses a threat on society's order?

2. Class Debate: Divide the class into two and have one side argue that Saufe being a dreamer poses a threat to society's order and the other half argue that Saufe being a dreamer poses no threat to society's order, just diminishes its control on himself. Use evidence from the text to support your arguments...
