Character Descriptions

This section provides a short description of all the major characters in the book. Characters

David Alexander - This eighteen-year-old plays the piano in the church, but wants to be a jazz musician.

Luke Alexander - This estranged family member collapses from an illness.

Margaret Alexander - This character, a pastor of a church, takes a brief trip to a Philadelphia church.

Brother Boxer - This church elder drives a liquor delivery truck.

Sister Boxer - This church elder is upset with the pastor for insinuating that the elder's spouse is doing something sinful.

Ida Jackson - This character asks the church for help with a sick baby.
