Objective

Objective: Prologue THE KILLING - In this chapter, the readers witness Ignacio Aguero murder his wife, Blanca. This singular event provides the main thrust of the rest of the novel. The objective of this lesson is for students to explore the relationship between Ignacio and Blanca, and to hypothesize why Ignacio might have murdered his wife.

1) 1.) As a class, compare/contrast the feelings Blanca had about their adventure in the Zapatas Swamp with Ignacio's feelings. What is the same about them? What is different? Does their trek into the swamp add unification or hostility to their relationship? How can you tell?

2.) As a class, create a list of people who may be affected by Blanca's sudden death. What types of characters do you expect to be a part of the rest of the novel?
