Object Descriptions

This section provides a short description of all the major objects in the book. This can be printed out as a study guide for students, used as a "key" for leading a class discussion, or you can jump to the quiz/homework section to find worksheets that incorporate these descriptions into a variety of question formats.

Objects

Republic of South Africa - This place is located at the southern part of Africa and the setting of the novel.

Cape Town - This place was the legislative capital.

Apartheid - This was a political system in place in South Africa from 1948 to 1994 which meant separateness.

Townships - These were areas where non-whites were forced to live after being evicted.

Government Avenue - This was where the House of Parliament was located.

House of Lies - This was another term referring to Parliament.
