The novel A Sparrow Falls is set against the backdrop of the war in France. The objective of this lesson plan is to discuss the author's use of a war setting in the novel and the sniper team as a part of it.

Lesson

1) Class Discussion: What do you think is the reason for the author to have a war as his setting for the novel? Does that make the novel more interesting? Do you think the author had some experiences of the war himself? Why the use of a sniper team? Does the sniper team make the novel more gripping?

2) Groups: Split the class into two groups. Have them debate on whether or not the war setting and the sniper team lend more credibility to the novel as as whole.
