Lesson

1) Homework: Students will research Korea during the twelfth century, especially as it concerns pottery, writing a short paper on the physical, cultural, governmental and economical aspects of the setting.

2) Class Discussion: Could this novel had been set anywhere? Would most of the situations in A Single Shard have applied to any where in Europe in this era? How did the author make this setting unique? How did the setting affect the characters? The plot? The themes? Why is the setting important?

3) Group Work: In groups, students will research Korean pottery in the present time and discuss the similarities and differences between the present and the 1100's listing the most importance differences and similarities to present to the class...
