Objective: De las Casas writes about the Spanish conquest of Mexico and the Caribbean in this work. Understanding more about Spain and its drive to explore and conquer puts a context around what he is writing about. The objective of this lesson is to learn more about Spain and its exploration of the world.

1) Homework: Write a research report about Spanish exploration in the 15th and 16th centuries. Who were the explorers during this time period? Where did they explore? What lands did they "find" and claim for Spain? Why was Spain interested in exploring at this time?
