Objective

Carlos explains that don Juan, although appearing old, is fit, spry and in excellent physical shape, despite appearing to old to be functioning in such a manner.

The objective of this lesson is to understand the difference between aging and growing old.

Lesson

1) Initiate a class discussion on the kinds of things that occur as a person ages. What things change? What things deteriorate?

2) Break the class up into groups of three or four and have each group brainstorm different ways to prevent this change from occurring, or at the very least, delay it. What kinds of things can an individual do to help them maintain their faculties as they age?

3) Have each student research three food groups and vitamins or substances that are supposed to elongate the lifespan. What are the specific medically proven ingredients in these things that promote longevity? What would these foods...
