Stage a Trial

Develop a staged trial in class that examines one of the subjects of themes in the book. You might choose to reenact an actual trial, or you might create an imaginary trial, such as one that examines the role that Christopher Columbus played in the decimation of the Arawak people.

News Article

Examine newspaper archives and bring to class a newspaper article that addresses one of the historical elements in the text. Discuss how the article shows the media and public’s response to the incident.

Related Fiction/Drama

Conduct research on the novels, poetry, plays, or films of the different historical periods in the text. Read or watch one of these examples and develop a research paper that discusses the portrayals of the time period and the themes in the work. Does this work of fiction demonstrate a particular viewpoint regarding historical events?
