Lesson

1) Class discussion:

a) Discuss the events of Chapter 1.

b) The novel begins with the sentence, "My name is Kinsey Millhone"; the author immediately introduces the reader to the narrator. How does the author introduce new information (exposition) that is necessary for the reader to know about Kinsey and her job?

c) What does the reader find out by reading this chapter that will obviously be pertinent to the rest of the story? What information may not be pertinent but serve as a backdrop or as a way of giving Kinsey life?
