There was no one to muck out since the men were too busy feeding all the animals, and the woman wouldn't do the job. So every few months, the thick hatch would be winched back and the cleaner-birds would be let in to do the cleaning up.

When the animals learned that every man and beast that was not on the Ark would die in a flood, there was much jealousy and bad behavior. Harsh and envious words were spoken about the fish, the amphibians looked smug, the birds practiced staying in the air. Some types of monkey were seen constructing crude rafts. One week there was even a mysterious outbreak of food poisoning, and the selection process for some of the less robust species had to begin again.
