1. What does Benjie say about being a child?

Benjie says that no one who lives where he does wants to be a child. Being a child holds you back in a lot of ways. Someone will steal your money and maybe knock you down if you are a child. Someone might sexually assault a child. The only people who want to be children are rich children who have their own house, their own room, their own swimming pool, and ride around in a Cadillac.

2. What does Benjie think about lying, and how did he break his code?

Benjie hates for people to lie to him. Lying is one thing that he cannot stand. Everybody can be wrong sometimes, but when you are wrong, you should stand up and admit that you are wrong instead of lying. The only time that Benjie broke his code was when he stole three dollars from his grandmother's purse and did not admit that he did it.
