Objective

Chapters 1-4: Laura Whitcomb has a great gift for writing stories that appeal to a teen audience. The objective of this lesson is to learn more about the author so the reader can fully appreciate the novel as it is written.

Lesson

1. Do some small group research on Laura Whitcomb. Why did she begin writing, and how did this book come about? Where is she now?

2. Read an interview in which Laura Whitcomb discusses her writing. What other authors have a similar writing style? Why does her work appeal to so many?

3. Write a one-page biography about Laura Whitcomb summarizing her life and her writing.

Homework - Choose one of your favorite phrases or descriptions from Laura Whitcomb's novels. Write it down and in writing explain why you like it so much. Be prepared to share this with the class.
