Abbie Hoffman

Abbie Hoffman was known for his ability to shock America with ridiculous, humorous, and absurd antics which were always widely covered by the media. In 1967 Hoffman organized a huge rally at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.

The stated purpose of Hoffman's rally was to cast the evil spirits from the the massive, five-sided home office of the United States military by raising it five feet in the air through the use of group psychic powers. In the weeks before the event, Hoffman and his companions staged a media blitz to announce to America the promise of a levitated Pentagon.

Abbie Hoffman began his political activism working with the civil rights organization, SNCC (Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee). He was one of the founders of the loosely organized Yippie movement in 1966 which coordinated dozens of major protests. In the late sixties...
