Theodore Roosevelt

One of the most popular, controversial, and important presidents, Theodore Roosevelt was a hearty, dynamic leader. His administration introduced much-needed monitoring of business with an established set of guidelines. His foreign policy aimed to make the United States a more significant force in international affairs as well as the guardian of the Western Hemisphere.

Roosevelt was full of personal contradictions (opposites). Born to a wealthy family, he used the power of elected office to protect the general public against powerful institutions. He was a sickly child who grew into a strong and vigorous man. He was the first president to confront problems associated with industrialization (the use of machinery for making goods), while at the same time he became famous for his ground-breaking efforts at conserving natural resources.
