With the help of troops from the Welsh borderlands, Prince Edward (later Edward I) Evesham (4 August). Byzantine emperor Michael VIII Palaeologus exiles Patriarch Arsenius of Constantinople,
replacing him with Joseph. The empire splits into Arsenites (opponents of Michael and his pro-Latin policies) and Josephites (supporters of Michael).
