A satirical ditty pokes fun at the transformation of the farm family in the nineteenth century. In other early-nineteenth-century agricultural families, women and children worked on labor gangs while men tried to get work as day laborers on large farms.

Wife, to the Cow,
Girl, to the Yarn,
Boy, to the Barn,
And your Rent will be netted.

Man, Tally-ho
Miss, Piano,
Wife, Silk and Satin,
Boy, Greek and Latin,
And you'll all be Gazetted.
