CHEFS COME AND go. Sometimes quietly and sometimes with fanfare. At times they let their public know where they will be cooking next, and sometimes they just disappear.

Months ago I took notice of a restaurant in Hilltop West across the parking lot from the Kitchen Barn. I pressed my nose against the window and jotted down Z Grill.

Upon calling, I met Michael Pelkey, chef owner of the 8-month-old grill, which prides itself on scratch cooking. Although Pelkey's name did not ring a bell, his previous place of employment did - a wedding bell to be exact...
