A researcher recounts his experiences with his three-year-old son Z at the time that he was conducting the Children and the Environment Planning Project. The researcher and his team were faced with the difficulty of assessing the work of four groups of young people and refraining from taking over the project themselves. Observing Z at work with the tape measure and noting his direct comments made over objects and films, the researcher realizes that adult perspectives on youth activities, especially community participation, need to be changed drastically.
