Luis J. Rodriguez was a menace to society as a youth in the Los Angeles street gang Los Locos. Today, in his early 50s, he's a prize-winning poet and author.
The gangster-turned-poet spoke to 1,000 Syracuse middle-school pupils Tuesday morning in Syracuse University's Hendricks Chapel. Tuesday night, he presented another lecture, this one open to the public. His visit was the last installment in the 2005-06 Syracuse University Lecture Series.
