"Animal Beat" will appear once a month in the Living/Arts pages. One of the hottest trends in pets is also one of the most dangerous: cross-breeding wolves and dogs. Movies such as "White Fang" and "Dances with Wolves" have glamorized the call of the wild, but the romance appears to be a dark one.
