Cornelius Tacitus (Tass ih tuss) came of good family, saw military service as a tribune, and held one of the offices of the vigintivirate (minor magistrate) under Vespasian, quaestor (tax collector) under Titus, and praetor (magistrate) under Domitian (A.D. 88).
