Monarch Notes 01-01-1963 Apology Introduction: The Apology, the Crito and the Phaedo are the dialogues which deal directly with Socrates' trial and death. In the scene of the trial, it is apparent that Socrates is consciously choosing death. His defense (so-called) consists largely in showing how the prejudices against him have arisen, and how he has the highest possible justification for the life he has led (the command of God).
