At the age of two weeks he was adopted by Reed and Frances Albee and taken to live in the family home in Westchester, New York. Albee's new father had inherited a nationwide chain of vaudeville theaters, the Keith-Albee Circuit, which had been founded by Edward Franklin Albee II.
