Monarch Notes 01-01-1963 Introduction: E. M. Forster Edward Morgan Forster was born in London in 1879, the son of an architect, who died shortly after the child's birth. As a boy, he lived in Hertfordshire, in the house which was later to become the central symbol of Howards End. He attended Tonbridge School, a typical English "Public School," which he disliked intensely, and later, King's College, Cambridge, where he studied classics and history and was quite happy.
