ORIGINALLY DEVELoped in Germany in the late 1940s, tolerance rings are frictional fasteners used to join mating cylindrical parts. Their unique properties allow use in widely varying applications. Tolerance rings can act as "elastic shims" to hold components in place. They can also be used as torque-transfer devices for moving parts, or they can serve as torque limiters, depending on the application requirements.
