HOMOPHOBIA A History By Byrne Fone Metropolitan. 480 pp. $32.50 As we are all too often reminded these days, Byrne Fone is right when he asserts that homophobia--the fear and loathing of homosexuality and homosexuals--is the last acceptable prejudice. I hope the book he has devoted to it will contribute to making it a little less so. For this to happen, it will have to be bought by others than the already converted. I certainly don't want to discourage gay and gay-friendly people from reading Homophobia. Far from it. And it would probably be pointless to adjure card-carrying gay haters to pic...
