Wimbledon Rejects Equal Prize Money

Wimbledon officials, rebuffing requests by women tennis players for equal prize money, yesterday announced that the purse for this year's championships again will be distributed more heavily to men. Of the record $6.8 million, $3.7 million will go to men and $3.1 million to women, Wimbledon officials said. The total prize money represents a 5 percent increase from last year.
