The 1986 fire at Hampton Court led to a project to restore the Privy Gardens to their original appearance in the 1690s. William III was active in the original garden project, which was a blend of English, Dutch and French influences.
Some places seem, quite wrongly of course, to have seen more `history' than others. Because Westminster Hall or the White Cliffs of Dover have events of significance they have a strong sense of history. My main office happens to be in just such a place, Hampton Court Palace.
