Selecting dewatering equipment requires an expert knowledge of process systems and equipment, as well as product behaviour. Here, an overview of commonly used centrifuges and the scenarios to which each is best suited is presented.
Many issues affect the selection of dewatering equipment, particularly as the options available increase. In addressing these issues, one must consider whether sedimentation/clarification or filtration would be better for a given material, whether centrifuges should be used instead of filters and whether the system should be continuous or batch.
