In the children's card game of Old Maid, each player chooses a card from the hand of another player with the simple aim of forming a pair of cards. However, before the game begins one of the Queens is removed from the pack. As the game progresses, more and more pairs are formed and discarded until finally one player - the loser - is left with the odd Queen, known as the Old Maid. The aim of the game then is to avoid choosing the old Maid, or to try and pass on this unwanted card ...
