Communities in Boston's western suburbs aren't doing enough to protect their water supplies, environmental activists charged this week. A report from the nonprofit group Clean Water Action examined whether cities and towns had adequate long-term drinking water protection plans and whether they sufficiently restricted land use around their wells. Most communities in the Globe West circulation area met only one of the requirements, the report found. A few met neither.
