Michael W. Kauffman {Close to Home, Aug. 13} continues to muddy the waters in the John Wilkes Booth identification controversy, pointing to Dr. John Frederick May's sworn testimony on the Montauk. "I believe it to be {Booth's body} . . ." "Sir, I have no doubt that it is" etc. However, Kauffman omitted parts of May's testimony that were ambiguous. When asked if he recognized the body as Booth's, May said, "I do . . . though it is very much altered. It looks to me older . . . more freckled."
