Alfred Nobel was a man of war, but now people probably know him best for the prize he created to honor peace. Born in Sweden in 1833, Nobel invented dynamite in 1866. He held more than 350 patents for other inventions, and became a very successful businessman with companies and laboratories in countries throughout the world.
