THIS DAY, dedicated to honoring the country's war dead, can also be a time to meditate on peace. The emotions are not mutually exclusive, although the labels "hawk" and "dove" seem to suggest otherwise. People are much more complex than labels. When they stand in the cemetery today, surrounded by rows of fluttering flags, many will feel pride in the life of the soldier while still hoping for an end to the brutality of war.
