"Iwrite this sitting in the kitchen sink . . ." As winning first sentences go, it's hard to beat that of "I Capture the Castle," the 1948 novel by Dodie Smith that is a cult favorite among Anglophiles, romantics, aspiring writers and, well, anyone who appreciates funny, unsentimental coming-of-age stories. The film version opens Friday in New York and July 18 in Washington, after running successfully in Great Britain since May.
