THE new ZSK-NT two-stage compounding extruder from Coperion Werner & Pfleiderer has been designed for compounding bimodal polyethylene from the reactor. Bimodal PE has short polymer chains for good processability and chains of high molecular weight for good functional properties. During compounding of the powdery raw polymer to form pellets there are two steps crucial for final product quality: the melting of the polymer without overheating and the homogenisation of the constituents with their different viscosities.
