A TITLE like "Afrodisiac" conjures those long-gone days of psychedelic funk, and that indeed is an influence on the Veldt's new album. Still, don't expect Hendrix, Sly, Buddy Miles or the Chambers Brothers (although there's a hint of the latter to the song "Dusty Blood"). Most of the band's music is milder than that, and as indebted to the glossy British pop-soul of the mid-'80s as to the heady American funk of the late '60s.
