NEW YORK--Valence Technology Inc., Henderson, Nev., plans no less than a revolution in rechargeable batteries by introducing a power source based on phosphate.

Within a few months, Valence will identify an Asian original equipment manufacturer as its first partner for mass production, which is planned for launch early next year, said Stephan Godevais, president and chief executive officer of the company. By the middle of 2002, Valence expects to be able to produce up to a million phosphate-based rechargeables at its own facility in Mallusk, Northern Ireland.
