If you were looking to hire a bunch of terrific employees, would you narrow down the list of candidates to just people who had been elected to Phi Beta Kappa in college? I knew a publisher who did just that. Even in ads he ran, he wrote: "Phi Beta Kappa only." He claimed that, as a way to screen employees, requiring a Phi Beta Kappa key worked like a charm.
