SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- A year ago, Ray Crittenden seemed a long shot to play in the National Football League. He had little playing experience and was in the Patriots' training camp as a free agent. By the end of the season, though, he was second on the team in total yardage, with 805 yards receiving, returning and rushing. Now that he has NFL credentials, he also has battle scars.
