Four years ago Michael Gauthier, an intensely blue-eyed young man who believes he was destined to be an entrepreneur, spotted an expanding niche market for his screwdrivers and wrenches.

Please, don't refer to them as tools.

"I prefer to call them instruments," Gauthier said.
