The Channel Tunnel Rail Link (CTRL) is being constructed in two stages: Section 1 is the 40-mile section from the Channel Tunnel to Waterloo Station. Section 2 runs the 30 miles from Fawkenham junction to St Pancras. The civil engineering works on Section 1, worth Ll.6 billion, are nearing completion. Infrastructure to support the tracklaying, which includes the construction of a temporary railhead carrying more than 10 miles of track, has been completed. Tracklaying is under way.
