The treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo, which ended the Mexican American War, is under new scrutiny at the 150th anniversary of the end of the war. Present-day implications are being considered at a series of conferences across the US. Legally trained Latino academicians from the first generation to examine such issues are analyzing the treaty according to George Martinez, professor of law, Southern Methodist University. The treaty is being compared at one conference to NAFTA. A trade agreement would usually have provisions for workers to migrate freely.
