Terminology

In the field of education, we often use the terms translation and interpretation interchangeably. For purposes of clarity and consistency in this article, we use the term interpretation for the oral process of converting a message from one language to another. An interpreter "is the person who works in live situations and interacts with speakers and listeners" (Rodriguez, 1991, p. 5).
