ALAIN PENAUD, the Saracens outside-half, drew the Tetley's Bitter Cup holders away to league champions Newcastle in the quarterfinals today and then immediately apologised to his team-mates. Penaud escaped unscathed from yesterday's violent 40-0 Cup win at Lydney but he could be on the end of some sharp words when he turns up at training with the north London club tomorrow. Penaud said: "Maybe I shouldn't go training tomorrow. I'll certainly have to apologise to Francois Pienaar, out player-captain.
