"Torque" is a simple term we all know and use to designate a certain degree of force exerted to tighten any threaded fastener. The term has been used so freely for such a long time that we do not understand the many variables that affect torque and how it is measured.

For one, our unit of force is frequently referenced incorrectly as a "foot-pound," when in fact, the proper expression for this unit is a "pound-foot." Thus, a one-pound pull at a distance of one foot is a pound-foot, force and distance.
