IN WINNING the 1994 Pulitzer prize for drama with "Three Tall Women", Edward Albee has again been recognised as a leading American playwright--after being shoved into Broadway's oblivion by New York critics and public for the past 19 years. It is the 66- year-old Mr Albee's third Pulitzer--the others were for "A Delicate Balance" (1966) and "Seascape" (1975).
Mr Albee's most famous and commercially successful play was "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?". It was short-listed for the 1963 Pulitzer but the jury was so perturbed by its cruel domesticity it opted for a Solomonic decision to award ...
