Thomas F. Lewis, 78, a Florida Republican who served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1983 to 1995, died Aug. 2 at a Palm Beach hospital. He had congestive heart failure. Rep. Lewis, who represented North Palm Beach, was a member of the House Science and Technology Committee. He was instrumental in saving the Hurricane Hunter Plane Program, which sends planes to gather hurricane data for meteorologists.
