QUESTION Was James Clavell, author of Shogun, a Japanese prisoner ofwar? JAMES CLAVELL'S family had a strong naval tradition. He was the son ofCommander Richard Clavell, a Royal Navy officer stationed in Australia to helpestablish the Royal Australian Navy, and related to Don Clavell, flaglieutenant to Admiral Collingwood at Trafalgar.
